Candidates Get Jump on Small Contributions for 2017 Races

Friday, January 9, 2015

The second filing period for the 2017 election cycle ends on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Starting Monday, all candidates running for office must file a disclosure statement. The CFB expects to receive disclosure statements from at least 38 candidates before the midnight deadline on Thursday, January 15.

Before the filings start to arrive next week, let’s review fundraising reported to date by candidates for office in 2017.

A number of candidates, led by Queens Borough President candidate Melinda Katz, have already collected a substantial number of small contributions ($175 or less) from New York City residents. More than 30 percent of all contributors reported, thus far, have been New York City residents who gave $175 or less.

A total of 19 candidates reported collecting $781,446 in contributions during the first six months of 2014, with 79 percent of that amount coming from individuals.
