The 2012 Youth Poet Laureate Program Holds Semifinal Slams

The CFB's Voter Assistance Advisory Committee presents the 2012 Youth Poet Laureate Program (YPL)Voter Slam Semifinals on October 22nd and 23rd. Details below.

Event: Voter Slam Semifinals
Location: Nuyorican Poets Café, 236 East 3rd Street, between Avenues B and C
Time: Saturday, October 22 at 3PM & Sunday, October 23 at 6PM

The YPL Program is a voting-themed teen competition designed to energize youth voters through spoken word poetry. The program sponsors workshops for participants, ages 16-19, to hone their writing skills and learn about voting and community leadership. The NYC Youth Poet Laureate will be named at the Youth Voter Slam Finals on November 5th.

The NYC Youth Poet Laureate and the Youth Poet Ambassadors (finalists in the program) will represent the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) and its Voter Assistance Advisory Committee (VAAC) in their outreach to potential youth voters throughout the city.

The YPL Program is a partnership between Urban Word NYC and the CFB. Urban Word NYC presents literary arts education and youth development programs in the areas of creative writing, journalism, college prep, literature, and hip-hop. It provides writing workshops to teens year-round and hosts the Annual Teen Poetry Slam.
