New York City Campaign Finance Board Chair Father Joseph Parkes, S.J., authorized public funds payments totaling $742,332 to the two candidates in the Democratic Public Advocate Primary Runoff Election today. Program participants in a runoff election receive a public funds payment equal to 25 percent of the public funds they received during the Primary Election. Details of today's payments are available in the table below.

On August 15, the Board determined that a runoff election was reasonably anticipated in the Democratic Public Advocate Primary race. That determination allows these candidates to accept contributions that must be deposited in a separate bank account and used only for the runoff election.
New York City's matching funds program encourages candidates to raise low-dollar contributions from New Yorkers living in the neighborhoods they hope to represent, instead of relying on large contributions from special interests. Including today's payment, the CFB has paid $32,200,454 to eligible candidates in the 2013 elections.
