185 potential candidates in the 2009 citywide elections have filed required financial disclosure statements with the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) as of 5:30 P.M. today.
This is the seventh scheduled disclosure statement for the 2009 citywide elections. All potential candidates in the 2009 elections, including non-participants, are required by law to provide a detailed report of all financial activity for their campaigns covering the period January 12, 2009 – March 11, 2009.
The following candidates have submitted disclosure statements as of 5:30 P.M. today. Updated, detailed information for these candidates can be found on the CFB website’s financial summary page and in the searchable online database.
Mayor Public Advocate Comptroller |
Borough President Markowitz, Marty (Brooklyn) City Council |
Diamondstone, Kenneth A (#33) Undeclared |
Candidates may deliver statements to the CFB, submit filings electronically, or send the materials by mail, as long as mailed submissions are postmarked by midnight tonight.
By joining New York City’s voluntary Campaign Finance Program, candidates agree to abide by strict spending limits. In return, candidates in the Program may qualify for public matching funds. The deadline to join the Program for the 2009 elections is June 10, 2009. Recent changes to the law have modified the public matching funds ratio for the 2009 citywide election from $4-to-$1, for the first $250 per contributor, to $6-to-$1 for the first $175 per contributor. A summary of other changes affecting contributions and expenditures can be found on our website.
To qualify for public financing, Program participants must be opposed on the ballot, be in compliance with Program requirements, and demonstrate that they have adequate support from the public. They do this by meeting “threshold” minimum requirements for the amount of money raised and the number of individuals who have contributed to the campaign. Threshold requirements vary by office.
An analysis of the disclosure filing, including a comparison with previous election cycles, will be released early next week.
