CFB Announces First Democratic Primary Debates for Mayor and Public Advocate

New York City’s Official Debate Program continues this week with the first Democratic Primary debates for Mayor and Public Advocate.

First Democratic Primary Debate – Mayor
Sponsored by NY1 News and co-sponsors NY1 Noticias, WNYC Radio, New York Daily News, Citizens Union, and Time Warner Cable

When: Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 7:00 P.M.

Where: New York Public Library’s Celeste Bartos Forum, Steven A. Schwartzman Building, 475 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan
Broadcast info: The debate will be telecast live on NY1 and NY1 Noticias with Spanish interpretation, and also broadcast live on WNYC Radio (AM 820 and 93.9 FM). The debate will also be streamed live on ny1.com, ny1noticias.com, and wnyc.org.

Press access: Accredited press will be permitted to watch the debate from a designated area in the Celeste Bartos Forum. The entrance is on 42nd Street. No cameras will be allowed inside the Celeste Bartos Forum. Still and video photographers will be directed to a room outside of the debate area. Immediately following the debate, the candidates will be available for interviews. Pool photography will be provided by the New York Daily News. Sponsored by WABC-TV and co-sponsors WXTV Univision 41, 1010 WINS, and the League of Women Voters of the City of New York

When: Friday, August 28, 1:30 P.M.

Where: WABC-TV studios, 149 Columbus Avenue (at 67th Street), Manhattan

Broadcast info: The debate will be streamed live on 7online.com and broadcast on WABC-TV (Channel 7) and on WNYC Radio (AM 820 and 93.9 FM) at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, August 30. The debate will be broadcast on WXTV Univision 41 Saturday, August 29 at 11:00 A.M.

Press access: All accredited press will be permitted to watch the debate from designated areas set up outside the debate studio. No reporter or camera will be allowed inside the taping area during the debate. Cameras will be allowed into the studio 10 minutes prior to taping for a 5 minute photo-op only. The debate studio will reopen to reporters and cameras immediately following the debate for interviews with the candidates. The Debate Program, administered by the Campaign Finance Board and sponsored by a number of media and civic organizations, was created to ensure that citizens are provided the opportunity to see candidates running for city-wide office (mayor, public advocate, and comptroller) face each other in non-partisan forums that allow for substantive discussions of campaign issues.
