CFB to Release Citywide Elections Debate Sponsor Application

January 7, 2009

The Campaign Finance Board will release the application to sponsor CFB debates for the 2009 citywide elections on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

The application will be made available to interested parties on the Board’s website, www.nyccfb.info. Organizations interested in learning more about becoming a debate sponsor as well as obtaining an application may do so at a breakfast meeting for potential debate sponsors on Tuesday, January 13 at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held at the law offices of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom at Four Times Square (between Broadway and 6th Avenue) in Conference Room 38-100/102 on the 38th floor. Sponsors are not required to attend the meeting, but may do so to learn more about the CFB’s Debate Program and ask questions. To RSVP, contact Press Aide Courtney Law, at (212) 306-7604 by January 9th.

The Debate Program is administered by the CFB, but the debates are sponsored by organizations selected by the Board. Debate sponsors must not be affiliated with any political party, candidate, or public official, and must not endorse any candidates for the pending primary or general election before the debates for that election are held. The sponsors conduct the majority of the work for the debates and bear the bulk of the expenses associated with them.
