CFB Statement on Gov. Cuomo's Voting Reform Proposals in State of the State Address

The New York City Campaign Finance Board's Director of Voter Assistance Onida Coward Mayers issued the following statement supporting Governor Andrew Cuomo's commitment to passing automatic voter registration, same day registration and early voting:

“We join with voters across New York City and the entire state in applauding Governor Cuomo for proposing this bold package of voting reforms. Automatic voter registration, same day registration, and early voting would make casting a ballot so much easier and would be a great first step towards addressing the voter participation crisis in our state.

We agree with the Governor that the 2016 elections exposed critical deficiencies in New York's outdated election system and congratulate him for proposing a strong plan that will make New York a leader in protecting voters' rights and helping them cast ballots that count. We call on the state legislature to pass these much needed reforms quickly, and account for them within the budget process.”
