Fundraising Period for Council District 12 Special Election Ends Today

Deadline to file campaign finance disclosures with CFB is Friday, October 26
October 22, 2012

Today is the last day of the fundraising period for candidates running in the Council District 12 special election. All candidates will file required disclosure statements of their campaigns’ financial activity from October 2 through October 22, 2012. Candidates may file as early as tomorrow, October 23. A complete list of candidates registered with the CFB for the special election is available here.

Board rules adopted earlier this year requiring disclosure of independent expenditures are in effect for this special election. Friday, October 26 is also the second deadline for disclosure of independent expenditures in this election. More information about the rules is also available on the CFB website.

FILING DETAILS

The CFB will post updates to its Twitter feed, @NYCCFB, as filings are received. You can easily search for updates with the hashtag #FilingDay.

Beginning October 23, the CFB will update its website at regular intervals to reflect disclosure statesments that have been received.  A press advisory will be issued to alert interested parties each time the website is updated.

All candidates in the Council District 12 special election will file electronically via C-SMART Web, the CFB's new web-based disclosure application that allows campaigns to submit their filings from any computer with Internet access. Submissions must be made by midnight, October 26.

Financial information for campaigns may be found in two places on the website:

Disclosure statements from independent spenders must be filed electronically, and their disclosures can be found here.

Special elections have different contribution and spending limits; information about the special election in November can be found here.

Also starting October 23, all candidates in this special election, including non-participants, must report any contributions or loans of more than $1,000 and expenditures of more than $20,000 within 24 hours of the transaction. These pre-election statements will be available on the CFB website in PDF format.
