NYC Votes Releases Voter Guide to New York State and Local Primary on September 13
September 7, 2016
NYC Votes announces the release of the official, nonpartisan NYC Voter Guide to the 2016 state and local primaries on Tuesday, September 13. The guide provides information about the candidates who will appear on the ballot, as well as instructions on where and how to vote. Polls in New York City will open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. on September 13.
Voters registered in political parties have the opportunity to select their party's candidates for the general election in November.
- Democratic voters in Bronx City Council District 17 will be choosing their Democratic Party candidate. A printed guide to this race will be mailed to every household with a registered Democratic voter in the district.
- Residents statewide will choose party candidates in Assembly and Senate races.
NYC Votes partnered with MapLight to launch Voter's Edge New York, an online guide to candidates on the ballot in New York City throughout the 2016 elections. Voters simply type in their home address to see a page with all of the contests that will appear on their ballot. The page is supplemented with information about the candidates, including endorsements, funding sources, editorials, news articles, summary information, and biographies.
NYC Votes collaborated with BronxNet to produce and broadcast video statements of both City Council District 17 candidates. The candidate statements will air on BronxNet (channels 67-Optimum and 33-FiOS) at 8 p.m. on Wednesday 9/7 and Thursday 9/8, and 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday 9/9.
"We're fast approaching the finish line in this historic election year. New Yorkers will head to the polls on September 13th to select candidates for the general election in November," said Amy Loprest, executive director of the NYC Campaign Finance Board. "It's critical that all eligible voters participate in these elections."
Daniel G. Newman, co-founder and president of MapLight said, "We are thrilled to partner with NYC Votes to provide New York voters with the information they need to make informed, confident decisions.”
These are closed primaries, which means you must be enrolled in a party to be eligible to vote in that party’s primary. Check your party enrollment status.
