On Tuesday, June 25th, a Democratic primary election will be held to fill the position of City Council member in District 45 from 2020 through the end of 2021. The candidate who is elected in the primary will continue on to the general election in November. All voters registered in the Democratic Party in City Council District 45 (Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatlands, Midwood, and Canarsie) are eligible to vote in this primary election. There will also be a Democratic primary election in the borough of Queens for District Attorney (DA). All voters registered in the Democratic Party in Queens are eligible to vote in this race.

The City Council is the legislative, or law-making, branch of New York City’s government. The City Council is responsible for passing local laws, making decisions about land use, overseeing city agencies, and approving the city’s budget. Each Council member represents one of the 51 New York City Council districts.

 

THE OFFICE OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY

 

District attorneys are the head prosecutors for their counties. They are responsible for setting legal and criminal justice policies and prosecuting criminal court cases.
