1. What is the most important issue in Council District 13 you would address if elected?
Reducing the tax burden on residents, not by empty political promises but by insisting upon efficiency in government reducing the cost of government and by fighting against hidden taxes such as Water Board increases, MTA increases, TBTA toll increases etc. Also, by advocating for the State to assume responsibility for the City University System, and relieving the City of a 500 million dollar burden, more appropriately borne by the State.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Education and the safety of our children is the utmost obligation of government. Our community needs construction of a high school for high achieving students, and small specialized charter schools to improve the educational environment. Principals and teachers need more authority to deal with disruptive students who diminish educational possibilities for others. Overdevelopment of the community must be stopped and reversed by identifying property available for community use. Parking alternatives must be developed.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have a varied professional background which began with the administering of programs that brought over 100 jobs yearly to the Northeast Bronx by providing training to women returning to the workforce after raising their families. My career continued with law enforcement, prosecuting some of the worst criminals in the Bronx and the most corrupt public officials in our borough. Currently I am an administrator of Senior Citizen Programs and Housing for Senior Citizens. My tenure as Special Counsel to the City Council of Yonkers for over a decade also gives me hands on knowledge of municipal government, from drafting legislation to representing the interests of the City Council in Supreme Court proceedings.
