1. What is the most important issue in Council District 27 you would address if elected?
The most pressing issue facing my district is the lack of equitable distribution of city services. Once re-elected I will continue to focus on issues such as fighting to protect the character of our residential neighborhoods through down-zoning, controlling truck traffic, advocating to contain waste transfer stations and properly maintaining school resources which protect and enrich the quality of life for the people in my district.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Economic development is key to our city’s future thus I will continue to support long term growth initiatives and development especially those that will provide greater employment opportunities for all New Yorkers as well as support commercial revitalization efforts that benefit local minority and women owned businesses. I am also concerned with the overall health of our city. Therefore, I want to work on increasing awareness and preventative measures to stem the tide of rising infant mortality rates, asthma, HIV Aids cases and obesity while also ensuring that we control negative industrial impacts to our communities. Lastly, I will continue efforts to fully fund educational and training programs for our young people in order to encourage their full participation in the future of our city.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have been proud to serve the city first as aide to Archie Spigner and now as Councilmember for the 27th district. I believe that my experiences as head of the Queens delegation, member of the council’s budget negotiations and leadership teams has given me the opportunity to demonstrate my knowledge and desire to deal with critical issues. I have also shown my ability to successfully work with all entities who care about ensuring and protecting our city’s future.
