1. What is the most important issue in Council District 40 you would address if elected?
Immigration.
Continuing to work with coalitions of local, state and federal officials to protect the rights and liberties of immigrants, thereby mitigating the devastating impact of current immigration policies. Such policies have made a mockery of family reunification and unfairly stereotyped entire races of people. This problem compounds important quality of life issues such as disparities in healthcare, inadequate education and insufficient economic opportunities.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Economic opportunities and entrepreneurial options that can result from assertive, environmentally sound approach to upgrading the quality of the delivery of goods and services in the 40th Council District.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have been a tireless and skillful negotiator for vital resources needed for community preservation efforts, such as the fight to designate more historic landmarks in the 40th Council District. I continue to work with community stakeholders in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as pursuing a rigorous youth empowerment agenda and delivering millions of dollars to our healthcare infrastructure (Kings County Hospital expansion, the urgent care center at Caledonian Health Center, and the state-of-the-art facility at the SUNY Downstate Bio-Tech Center). I also secured millions of dollars for safe recreational facilities for our children at Hamilton Metz Park, Prospect Park, and the newly renovated Parade Grounds. I’ve been a leader in advocacy, with a progressive legislative agenda at City Hall and a record that speaks to the desires of the people of the 40th Council District.
