1. What is the most important issue in Council District 44 you would address if elected?
Development in our city is one of the most important issues on the agenda. We must always look to the future of our great city, but I will not allow potential economic development to come at the expense of the viability of our communities.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
We face the threat of a Cross Harbor Tunnel that would run 32 round-trip freight trains daily, 500,000 railcars annually, through the heart of the district. I pledge to continue fighting this devastating railroad, ensuring that Midwood, Bensonhurst and Boro Park remain great places to live, work, and raise a family.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
Four years ago, you sent me to the City Council with a mission. Together we declared that honesty and integrity would forever be prerequisites while electing representatives to our government. I have taken that message to heart, working every day to justify your faith in me.
I am humbled at what you and I together have accomplished. From ensuring that we would have two $400 tax rebates and an Earned Income Tax Credit for thousands to providing free tax preparation services through my office; from securing a new garage for Boro Park Hatzolah to funding our public schools and putting computers in our children’s hands; from securing school nurses for every public, private and parochial school to funding senior lunch programs; from suspending alternate side parking on religious holidays to once-and-for-all removing the McDonald Avenue trolley-tracks to keeping garbage trucks, school buses, and rush hour drivers on different schedules, we did it!
So much remains to be done, and with G-d’s help, I pledge to continue fighting for you and our community. Serving you has been my distinct honor, and together, we can continue to ensure that honesty and integrity reign while we accomplish great things for four more years.
