10th City Council District

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 10 you would address if elected?

The most important issue affecting our country, and District 10 especially, is the economic crisis. This is causing small businesses to close down and create vacant lots in our neighborhoods. The educational cut backs are hurting our children's progress. Reduced housing services have increased the number of evictions.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

As a teacher for 14 years and as a co-founder of Gregorio Luperon High School, I feel that a good education is essential for the economic advancement of individuals and our community. Quality services for our youngest children are essential to prevent an achievement gap. Creating vocational/technical schools in our community is essential to prevent drop out rates. Keeping regulated, affordable, safe and well-maintained housing is essential. We need to ensure every resident gets the health care he or she needs, especially our children and senior citizens.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have lived in this district for 25 years and I know the problems that face this area. Since the age of 18, I have worked hard with others to solve these problems by co-founding Gregorio Luperon H.S., getting funds to build a state-of-the-art building, leading a program to provide enrichment services to high school students, working against corrupt and abusive landlords, fighting against subway fare increases and fighting for more translation services at hospitals. During these years I have fought hard for our district, and I have done so with honesty, dignity and transparency, the core values our community deserves in its City Council member.
