1. What is the most important issue in Council District 20 you would address if elected?
Housing: Eliminate the Erstadt Law so that housing regulations are determined locally instead of in Albany (home rule). All new housing must have a percentage of on site affordable housing. Affordable housing should be calculated between 1/4 or 1/5 of household income. Moratorium on luxury housing until affordable housing shortage is rectified.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Poor air quality due to car, truck and airplane pollution must be rectified. Reduce transit fares as to have more riders and less cars! Every neighborhood should have a waste transfer station.
Smaller student to teacher ratio. Equitable pay compared to the surrounding areas for teachers. Staggered and later hours to lessen overcrowding. Teaching to a standardized tests score curriculum bores students. Curriculum should focus on educational skills and also broaden a student's horizon.
Broaden bi-lingual education to include English speaking students. So that every NYC student has the opportunity to become bi-lingual.
Recruit minority students for careers in teaching, nursing and information technology plus other careers where the city is suffering from shortages.
The money exists to make real changes in the city the problem has been allocation.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am an Ox for the People a Chinese saying that means an honest politician that is willing to serve the people. I want to serve all of the people in Flushing, the working class, middle-class and the working poor. We're all in this together.
