1. What is the most important issue in Council District 25 you would address if elected?
The most important issue is to elect a representative who is proactive, in touch, & skilled at bringing resources & reforms necessary to strengthen neighborhoods. To develop partnerships with the civic & tenant groups, schools, community based organizations, service providers & District government officials to bring back neighborhood pride & unity. To be visible & present, by hosting weekly community forums throughout our district, with language translation as necessary. Twice a year I will host a district-wide forum to remain accountable, accessible & representative of all my constituents.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Western Queens has the worst air quality, pollution & environmental/health problems in NYC. I will pass laws & reforms to ensure we become educated about cleaner, more efficient, & renewable sources of energy & less reliant on toxic fuels & pesticides. I will work with the NYC Small Business Congress, local community development corporations, Chambers of Commerce & merchant associations to initiate comprehensive studies in District 25 to strengthen small businesses & bring in new business. I will work with community boards & colleagues in government to improve existing schools & create new schools. I will work to develop housing that’s affordable. Other issues include improving community partnerships to address the problems of trash & graffiti. Expanding services to seniors to ensure independence, respect & dignity. Improving our health care system as well as access to it.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am an independent. My mission & purpose is to protect the public interest of District 25 by ensuring that we have the resources & services that we need & deserve. I am the only person running for this office who has the background, skills set, vision & energy to take on the hard work. I am a strong & persuasive advocate as someone who has practiced corporate & public interest law, served as a Human Rights Commissioner, worked as a Legislative Aide & Constituent Services Associate for a State Assembly Member, served on a local Community Board & founded a neighborhood non-profit that is almost ten years old.
