1. What is the most important issue in Council District 40 you would address if elected?

Housing is a top priority. Skyrocketing prices threaten our seniors and make it difficult for young families to stay in the area. Current zoning regulations leave us vulnerable to as-of-right, out-of-scale and inappropriate development. Our community is too often left out of the planning process in matters that directly impact important quality of life issues, (such as the effect of large scale residential development on our already overcrowded schools).

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Education: The schools in our region were hard hit by restructuring. We lost excellent, experienced teachers and administrators. Classes are overcrowded and morale is low. As a result, discipline has suffered and violence, including gang-related violence is on the rise. Too many teachers are not certified in the subject they teach. Schools lack adequately equipped science and computer labs, music and art classes. School buildings are in dire need of repair. I will seek to join the Council’s Education committee. Clean streets. Pothole repairs. Working traffic lights. These problems are fixable. I will have top-notch staff dedicated to solving these problems. Health related concerns: Central Brooklyn has one of the highest rates of HIV/Aids, infant mortality, diabetes and asthma cases. These are urgent problems and I, as a member of the City Council, will work with my constituents to identify and implement vitally needed solutions. I will be accessible and responsive. Together we will set clear, attainable goals to tackle these problems.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I am a long-time resident of the district, concerned about local issues and all of the people in my district. I am not distracted by ambitions of running for another office. I pledge to serve my constituents for the full four-year term. I am a successful business owner, a homeowner and a community activist. I know how to get things done. I will work with all the other elected officials to the best advantage of the neighborhoods we serve. I am endorsed by Congressman Owens and other community leaders.
