1. What is the most important issue in Council District 2 you would address if elected?
Protecting our future by safeguarding our children: I was appalled when I read that 17 out of 36 kindergartners would not have seats this September; the closing of three day care centers; poor children living in Public Housing are worse off academically; the fastest growing group of violent felony offenders today are teen girls; thousands of children from NYC ages 7 to 15 were admitted to detention facilities; our teens are getting infected with HIV at a higher rate this year; ACS is desperately searching for foster homes for thousands of kids. Our children are my most important issue.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
The creation of a local development corporation that would establish a Business Improvement District that would assist in the creation and retention of small businesses and create job opportunities for the local community; Development of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Site that would create decent, permanent, affordable and integrated housing for low, moderate and middle income people; Protecting our environment, greening our district.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am born, raised and educated on New York's Lower East Side; a life-long member of this district. I have developed a true understanding of the many issues that affect us all because I have witnessed and experienced the changes, whether adverse or positive, while living here. I reside in a NYCHA housing development; and I love this very colorful and diverse district in which we live and I will work hard as we strive together to build our community into its truest form.
