1. What is the most important issue in Council District 27 you would address if elected?

Jobs will be my number one priority. I will work to retain and grow the number of jobs in the district by making it easier for small businesses to start up, keep their doors open and grow. Small businesses employ many people in the district, but they are overburdened by City fines and licensing fees that can change. The City spends more time enforcing regulations and collecting penalties from small businesses than educating and assisting them. For residents who have lost their jobs or are looking for their first job, I will put resources into job training. I will also support all federal, state and local projects that can provide district residents with jobs associated with infrastructure investments, such as improvements to subway lines, highways and bridges.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

The foreclosure crisis has hit Queens hard, and I will do everything I can to ease its impact. I will work to help people stay in their homes by making it easier to modify mortgage loans. I will also work to curb subprime loans and require the mortgage industry to provide full information. I value the people who built our community-our seniors-and I will fight for energy assistance, reducing taxes, and preventing age discrimination. I will seek to improve education through additional funding for Head Start and after school programs, and I will work to reduce the high school dropout rate. I will fight any proposed increase to CUNY tuition.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As a lifelong resident of Queens, I am invested in this community. I own a home in the district, and I want my family and neighbors who own homes to keep their homes and maintain their proper value. I operate a law firm and a business so I understand the needs of businesses and the role they play in providing jobs. My family lives in the district, and I understand the challenges they face to get by in these tough economic times. Queens has always been and will always be my home, and I am running for Council so that together we can help make it a better place.
