The CFB conducts a variety of training sessions to help campaigns comply with the rules, disclose their financial activity via C-SMART, and navigate the audit process. Attending our trainings, and working with your liaison, will help ensure your campaign runs smoothly!
Training Requirement
Per Admin. Code §3-703(15) and Board Rule 2-06, candidates must complete a Compliance training and treasurers must complete both a Compliance and a C-SMART training. If a candidate is their own treasurer, they must complete both trainings. If there is a change in treasurer, the new treasurer must also complete the required trainings by the required deadline. As best practice, we highly recommend that any campaign staff assisting with compliance matters and data entry attend CFB trainings.
Candidates and treasurers must complete their required trainings:
- within 45 days of registering with the CFB or replacing a treasurer in the years preceding the election year;
- within 30 days of registering or replacing a treasurer in an election year;
- or by the last day of the reporting period for the next disclosure statement, whichever is later.
To be eligible to receive any public funds payment, the candidate and treasurer must complete the required Compliance and C-SMART trainings no later than 15 business days before the payment date. Refer to the Public Funds Guidance Document for specific deadlines by payment date.
Running in a special election? All special election campaigns must attend a Compliance training specific to the special election cycle within 30 days of registration or by the last day of the reporting period for the next disclosure statement, whichever is later. See Board Rule 15-05 and review the Special Elections page for more information.
