Later, Late Disclosures!

With the first filing deadline for the 2017 election cycle coming Tuesday, now is a great time to reflect on how much more effective candidates have been at filing disclosure statements on time.

The number of late filings dropped 24 percent, to just 88 during the 2013 election, compared to 2009. Since 2005, the number of late disclosure filings has dropped by 42 percent.

On-time filings provide for greater transparency and allow the public to make more informed decisions at the polls. The CFB is constantly working to make it easier for campaigns to satisfy this fundamental requirement of the City’s program. In 2013, the CFB streamlined the disclosure process by upgrading its proprietary reporting software and by providing a simple method to send documents electronically.
