Campaign Finance Board Supports Legislation to Strengthen Disclosure on Political Ads

April 25, 2014

The Campaign Finance Board Executive Director Amy Loprest testified before the City Council’s Committee on Government Operations today supporting legislation that strengthens disclosure requirements for campaigns and independent expenditures.

Intro. 6 requires campaigns to include a “paid for by” notice on all communications. Intro. 148-A requires independent spenders to disclose their top funders within the communications, which will help voters better understand who is behind each message.

“During an election, voters may be inundated with conflicting and confusing information about candidates through a wide variety of media—on television, in the mail, on the Internet, and elsewhere,” said Executive Director Amy Loprest. “Providing voters with clear information about who is responsible for these campaign messages will reduce the likelihood of confusion among voters.”

The full testimony is available on the CFB website.
