At a regularly scheduled meeting today, the New York City Campaign Finance Board determined that one campaign from the 2013 election cycle committed violations and must pay penalties. It also determined that a campaign from the same cycle must repay public funds received.
In her opening remarks, Board Chair Rose Gill Hearn announced that seven candidates will participate in the public matching funds program for the election to fill the vacant City Council seat in Queens District 23. A party primary will be held on September 10 and the general election will occur on November 3rd.
Chair Gill Hearn said: “The public funds provided by City taxpayers help give more candidates the opportunity to run for office. By matching the small donor contributions candidates raise from New York City residents, the program diminishes the role large contributions play in our elections and provides candidates with the resources they need to run competitive campaigns.”
“We welcome all of the new candidates to the field and acknowledge the commitment they’ve made to serve their community.“
