Campaign Finance Board Will Announce 2013 Debate Program Sponsors and Schedule

June 10, 2013

The New York City Campaign Finance Board will hold a press conference on Thursday, June 13 at 2PM on on the steps of City Hall to announce the schedule and sponsors for the New York City's official Debate Program for the 2013 elections.

The Debate Program is a cornerstone of the CFB’s voter education efforts. It provides New Yorkers with an opportunity to compare candidates side by side as they discuss the important issues facing the city. The debates help ensure New Yorkers are well-informed as they head to the polls to cast their vote.

The CFB has administered the Debate Program since 1997, although individual debates are sponsored by outside media, civic, and academic groups. The Debate Program requires citywide candidates who are Campaign Finance Program participants and meet nonpartisan and objective criteria to participate in the debates. Sponsors also may invite non-participants who meet the same criteria.

As a preview for this year's debates, please check out the CFB's YouTube channel, which includes a library of debates from 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2009, among other interesting videos.

NYC Votes is the nonpartisan voter engagement campaign of the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) and its Voter Assistance Advisory Committee (VAAC). In addition to promoting voter registration, participation, and civic engagement in New York City through its many programs and partnerships, NYC Votes sponsors the city’s official Debate Program and produces the citywide Voter Guide.
