All candidates for city office (Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller, Borough President, and City Council), may participate in the public matching funds program. Contributions received from New York City residents are eligible to be matched at a rate of $6-to-$1, up to $175 from each contributor, for a maximum of $1,050 in public funds per each New York City contributor. To be eligible for public funding, participants must appear on the ballot, have an opponent on the ballot, meet the two-part contribution threshold and be in compliance with the Campaign Finance Act and Board Rules, including the spending limits for their office.
Citywide candidates who join the Program are required to participate in the official New York City Debates if they meet the nonpartisan and objective debate criteria set by the CFB and its sponsors.
