Candidate Statement

I’m running for the New York State Senate in District 34, where I was born and raised because the people of the Bronx and Westchester deserve better. This time last year, working in the Executive Chamber, I was tasked with coming up with a strategy to pass the Reproductive Health Act. My first reaction was, how has this act, which codifies Roe v. Wade, not passed long ago? I quickly realized that it hadn’t passed for the same reason a whole host of other progressive priorities haven’t—a Republican-controlled State Senate that has been enabled and empowered for years by my own “Democratic” State Senator, Jeff Klein, and his IDC cohorts. I will fight for these progressive priorities — including fully funding our public schools (which are owed $88 million), closing loopholes that allow landlords to raise the rent, protecting women’s reproductive rights, and making it easier to vote.
