Stanley Kinard has been a visionary leader
in the Central Brooklyn community for over 3 decades.
It was Stanley Kinard that led the delegation
that brought Frank Mickens to Boys & Girls
H.S. as it’s principal. He led the coalition to
stabilize Bed-Stuy’s gifted and talented P.S./I.S.
308 and played an important role in the fight
to stop Edison from privatizing 5 community schools.
Stanley Kinard is the founder and Executive Director
of the Woodson Cultural Literacy Project that
focuses on the teaching of African American history
and culture. This organization has created many
jobs over it’s 15-year history.
Kinard has a record of proven leadership and
a vision for our community. This vision includes
using education and art to create an economic
and cultural renaissance in Central Brooklyn.
This long-range vision includes the creation of
institutions such as a community college, a museum,
a performing arts center and a movie theater -
institutions that exist in other communities and
should exist in ours as well. Stanley Kinard also
wants our commercial strips to be developed so
that quality goods and services are available
to community residents.
Kinard is particularly concerned about the educational
crisis facing our youth. The majority of the schools
in our community are failing schools. At a recent
J.H.S. graduation only 75 of 300 students were
allowed to graduate because the other 225 failed
to pass their exams. Stanley Kinard is prepared
to bring the community together to launch a campaign
that will motivate our youth to value education
and make it their highest priority.
