Having lived for 29 years and worked for
17 years in the 40th City Council District, the
area has become my “hometown”.
I have seen clean streets, people walking confidently
through the streets, happy to be in their banks,
employees from big department stores knew residents
by name or by face, teachers waiting outside of
schools to walk in with arriving students, in
June and July graduating high school students
and their parents only talked about the college
they would enter in September and looked forward
to participate in the Summer Youth Employment
Program - all this is gone!
The economic situation has deteriorated in the
40th district—banks and strong businesses
disappeared. Unemployment rate is high - 10 %.
Patients lye on the floor of our city hospital
waiting to be transferred like cattle. High school
students cannot write a letter and look forward
to the time they will waste after graduation.
I want that to change. I stand for the same thing
all the candidates stand for: a better everything.
However, I stand out. I want real and lasting
changes. I believe that investing in young people,
their education and their future is crucial to
real changes in society. In the Council I will
work, sponsor and support positive bills on all
issues of concern. However, youth, hence education
is my priority. My goal is to establish an infrastructure
to help youth develop competitive skills and use
those skills to assure the economic development
of the district. - my economic development plan
is youth-centered.
