Joe Cammarata grew up
in a working class household. His father, a Transit
Authority mechanic, and his mother, a public school
lunch aide, raised him to work hard and always do
his best.
After graduating from the N.Y. Institute of
Technology with a B.S., he joined the Navy, seeing
heavy combat during the Tet Offensive.
Returning from Viet Nam, Joe enrolled in the Police
Academy, and was assigned to the 101st Precinct.
Joe married his sweetheart, Linda, and bought a
house in Rosebank. They went on to have three
children: Joseph, Richie and Tricia.
After 19 years with the NYPD, Joe taught Special
Education and Social Studies at Tottenville, South
Richmond and New Dorp High Schools, and as an
adjunct professor at St. John’s University, teaching
Security Administration and Police Science.
Joe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel
in the Army Reserves. He now serves as President of
JRT Enterprises.
His children now grown, with one son and his wife
expecting their first child, Joe Cammarata is
building a grassroots-oriented campaign for City
Council on the North Shore.
Joe believes our community has been neglected too
long, and he’s determined to make our voices heard
at City Hall.
Joe Cammarata wants to be the Independent voice of
the North Shore.
He’ll work with men and women in both parties to get
a fair share of services for our communities. And he
won’t hesitate to criticize either party if he feels
they’re dragging their feet.
That’s the way Joe Cammarata is: he calls ’em like
he sees ’em.
