I proudly represented our communities as Assemblyman and then served as State Attorney General and now as your Councilman. If re-elected this year, I pledge to continue to provide the same capable, vigorous representation.
I have fought in the City Council to preserve essential services for the citizens of the City while trying to make government as efficient and cost-effective as possible. In addition, I have helped pass legislation to protect workers and others from exposure to tobacco smoke, to improve the salaries of low-wage domestic workers, to curb predatory lending practices, and to continue rent protections for tenants.
As a member of the Environmental Protection Committee, I have strongly supported measures to curb pollution and encourage recycling. I am the lead sponsor of a resolution in support of broadening the bottle bill to include recycling of water, juice, and ice tea bottles and cans.
My top priority is still education. As a member of the Education Committee, I have sought to insure that the Mayor’s reorganization plan improves schools and instruction.
My local office has provided help and advice for hundreds of constituents and numerous community groups. We have helped senior citizens get the benefits they are entitled to, helped families place children in appropriate schools, eliminated red tape for needed improvement projects, cleared up traffic problems, arranged for the clean up of lots and streets, ensured the continuation of weekend express bus service, attained funds for numerous not-for-profit service agencies and helped dozens of tenants deal with their landlords. I pledge to continue to work for individual constituents and community groups.
I will also work for you with other elected officials Assemblyman Dinowitz, Congressman Engel, and State Senators Schneiderman and Gonzalez as a team.
