In 2001, Councilman Seabrook made history as the first African American to hold office in three legislative branches: State Assembly, State Senate and his current position as a member of the NYC Council.
Councilman Seabrook resides in Co-op City. Representing the 12th Council District in the Northeast Bronx, he has continued to build on his pro-taxpayer, community service, public safety record. He continues to focus on education, job training & economic development, workplace equality, youth services, increased senior benefits and crime prevention. He serves on several committees: Civil Service & Labor, General Welfare, Transportation, Higher Education and Youth Services.
For nearly twenty years, Councilman Seabrook has compiled a distinguished record of public service representing his community and his accomplishments reflect his deep, on-going commitment to the needs of the people of his District.
The Councilman’s tireless efforts resulted in the creation of the State University’s North Bronx Community Counseling & Outreach Center. To date, more than 750 students have graduated from its programs and thousands more have benefited from its services. He has won high praise for his efforts to combat drug crime and violence. An outspoken advocate for equal opportunity, he has launched investigations into hiring practices that resulted in legislation barring employment discrimination and increasing penalties for civil rights violations.
Since his election to the Council, Council Member Seabrook has continued to focus on obtaining services for our community and on quality of life issues such as so called "hot sheet" motels and the placement of an OTB site in a residential community. Therefore, as he seeks re-election, crime, jobs, quality education, maintaining services to senior citizens and obtaining a fair share of funding for our community based organizations will continue to be of the utmost importance to him.
