Serving the people of the 40th Council District has been a distinct honor for me since I come from a family with a long history of commitment to public service. I believe that the confidence placed in me by the voters is not misplaced, and that I have been “Their Voice” at the City Council.
Community service, activism, and working to improve the quality of life of all the residents of the 40th District forms the basis for my work at the City Council. In this new term I intend to pay due diligence to all those things that impact our community and to work with my colleagues to make sure that Brooklyn, and in particular the 40th District, get their fair share of the City’s economic pie.
We live in tough financial times. But it is only by tapping into the creative energies of all the people who live in my district that we can collectively come up with solutions to ease the pain that is bound to come with the cuts to the city’s budget. That is why I have formed an HIV/AIDS Task Force that takes aim at a disease that is ravaging our community. It is the reason for my Sanitation Task Force, the 40th District Youth Task Force, and the 40th District Ad Hoc Clergy Committee - all set up to deal with the various problems in my district.
I am committed to serve my community with honor and integrity. For me, public office is nothing more than living the trust that the community has placed in me. I will not disappoint you.
