I seek re-election as your City Councilman so that I can continue serving the needs of the community as an elected official, first as a State Senator and now as a City Councilman. I continue to speak out against the property tax hike that was leveled against our community, as my campaign earlier this year invigorated the outer borough communities such as ours to tell City Hall that property tax hikes are devastating. The families living in the communities of Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, and Bath Beach expect their elected officials to be constituent minded, visible in the community, and to maintain a constituent services staff dedicated to helping people. I have lived my entire life in this community, and I will soon be approaching my 20th year of public service, first as a prosecutor and then as an elected official. My experience in this arena has qualified me over the years to be able to seek solutions to the issues that come before us as a community. As a Councilman, I have steered funding to our community to areas and programs that are in the most need of help. In my few months on the Council, I have held community forums on issues that are critical to my constituents such as rent protection laws, preservation issues, and saving ferry service to Manhattan. When I confront a tough vote in the Council, I always carefully consider how my constituents would be affected, especially if funding was cut for the services they rely on. I have only been on the Council a few months but in that time I have been able to step up and give the Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, and Bath Beach the voice and advocacy they need and deserve at City Hall. If I can be of any assistance to you I encourage you to visit my district office at 8703 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge or just give us a call at 718-748-5200. I am proud to serve you and I hope that you will continue to rely on my record of public service and paying attention to the needs of my constituency.
