The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Brooklyn born and bred, I have spent most of my life in this splendid borough, raised a family in Flatbush, intensely involved in my son’s educational life and school district. I have written, pro bono, a total of $253,000 in successful grant proposals, bringing computers, arts training, staff development and a schoolyard to my school district. Mill Basin’s Environmental Study Center received $10,000 from Keyspan for staff development from my efforts. In 1999, I became a Community School Board Member.
Councilwoman in the 46th District will be a natural extension of my activities. I pride myself on relentlessly pursuing what’s best for those around me, whether it’s family, neighborhood or the educational community. I personally chased drug dealers from my building, worked with the 63rd Police Precinct to rid my neighborhood of a drug house, initiated our Tenants Association to ensure stability of services in our building and spearheaded a successful campaign to place a traffic light on East 26th Street and Avenue L at my son’s school. Undaunted by the School Construction Authority, I led a parent coalition at P.S. 193 when the Authority inevitably botched a schoolyard repaving project. Potholes are regularly fixed in my neighborhood because of my persistence. Seeing things through to the bitter end and maximizing the strengths of those around me are my strong points.
Councilwoman will be the only hat I wear while in office. My constituents deserve, now more than ever, 24/7 from me and my staff. As your Councilwoman I will dedicate myself to getting the most out of your tax dollars (which are now unendurably high). Of particular importance to me is parent concern for their children’s success in the workplace. Quality of life issues will come under my close scrutiny and your relevant thoughts and suggestions will be welcome.
