1. What is the most important issue in Brooklyn you would address if elected?
Brooklyn is second to none and I have spent the last four years making sure that everyone knows that. The most pressing issue that we in Brooklyn face is managing all the new growth so that we maximize affordable housing, preserve neighborhood character and create jobs. Brooklyn is big town/small town, and we must preserve that character through smart development that works for all of us. Brooklyn must remain a place of character and of characters!
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
My other major priority is fixing Brooklyn’s growing health care crisis. I have already created the Brooklyn Center for Health Disparities to study and address access to health care in our neediest communities. The Center is just starting its vital work and there is much left to do and I will continue this work in a second term. As the federal and state government curb benefits to hospitals, we must make sure that access to quality health care is never sacrificed, particularly for the under-served and under-insured.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am proud to say, that I will always be as Brooklyn as they come. I’ve spent my entire life in Brooklyn and I have dedicated my life to making sure that it remains the greatest city in America, where legends are born and dreams come true. I have made the job of Borough President relevant in every corner of the borough, and I have no other agenda, other than what is good for Brooklyn is good for New York City. With a new plan for downtown, Brooklyn Bridge Park, the return of a national sports franchise, the cruise industry, a revitalized Coney Island, a new chapter in Brooklyn has begun. I promised that Brooklyn would never be in anyone’s shadow and that Brooklyn would be prominently recognized and celebrated throughout the city, nation and beyond. Promise made – promise kept. It’s so hip to have a zip that starts with 112!
