1. What is the most important issue in Council District 6 you would address if elected?

Keeping young families in NYC is one of my greatest concerns. I will be an advocate for young families who find this city an increasingly difficult place to live. Too many young people, who are trying to start a family and create a life in NYC, simply find the city too expensive and too difficult to live in. They wind up moving to the suburbs or out of NY all together. I will fight for policies that will keep this group of talented, hard working people from being forced out of the city in order to have a decent future for themselves and their families.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

We need to reform the way NYC works. The tax burden is too high and the city wastes too much money. We need ways to provide better service for people for less money. Competitive bidding will help achieve that. Most cities around the country do this in areas like transportation and sanitation and are seeing big savings with improved service. Look at the MTA – monopolies just don’t work. We need to open up the education system to give parents choices. Vouchers should be tried for poor families and charter schools need to be greatly expanded. Housing needs to be more affordable. There are far too many wealthy people on the UWS living in rent controlled apt’s. Rent control should be limited to needy families and should be means tested to ensure the program is fair.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

The best candidate is about who has the right ideas and priorities for the future of the Upper West Side. It is not about how long someone has served in government, and in fact long service in government tends to make public servants stale and out of touch with real people. Everyone knows the City Council is currently not working as it should. It is too controlled by special interests and desperately in need of more independent minded people who will fight for the priorities that concern young families in our neighborhood.
