1. What is the most important issue in Council District 26 you would address if elected?
The MTA has marked the 7 train as the next conductorless train. They plan to close 13 token booths and 8 bus lines in Queens. We’re looking at years of construction, unreliable service and less economic growth. Machines do not replace human beings. Machines cannot issue half-fare tickets to seniors or open the gates for evacuations, EMS or police, bikes, packages or strollers. I’ll fight for a safe, efficient and affordable transit system to keep our district moving.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
My top priorities include a better education for our children, affordable housing and sustainable development, more parks and clean energy. Half of District 26 elementary schools receive $1,000 less per student compared to other NYC schools. We need smaller class size, more teachers, free after school programs and equal spending per student. We need more grass for our children to play on, not more concrete. We need to keep our industrial zones protected for manufacturing use and living wage jobs, not Wal-Mart. Clean energy is safe energy. I support the East River Turbines which generate clean energy from wind power, reducing acid rain, mercury, smog and climate change pollutants while delivering jobs, taxes and income. I’ll also push to close Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. Queens is situated within the peak injury zone. I will not sit by and let fellow council members endanger the lives of Queens families.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I represent residents, not real estate companies. I will fight for our children and our schools with the passion of an educator. I understand the needs of small businesses. I am an independent voice for a cleaner, greener Queens.
