1. What is the most important issue in Council District 33 you would address if elected?
There is no more important subject for our future than education. A capable and informed electorate preserve and improve a society. We must prepare our future citizens now. Mayor Bloomberg’s education initiatives have already produced dramatic improvements in third and fifth graders’ testing. New tutoring programs, including Saturday instruction, have proved beneficial to the most needy students.
Mayor Bloomberg has changed the dynamic of educating our children. Hope exists where there was none. Mayor Bloomberg, and those who support him in our education successes, deserve your votes.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
The 33rd council district enjoys abundant development. Sadly, with boom times have come abuses. One developer, having received a favorable zoning change from a Community Board, dramatically increased the size of the development. This bait and switch is a violation of community intent.
I want economic development integrated with improved quality of life choices. This dynamic moment is best to choose our future – one where neighborhood considerations vie equally with commercial concerns; where we create new parks and maintain older parks. We must end the delays in constructing the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have met varied challenges.
I served in the Army as an N.C.O. I spent twenty months in Vietnam where, while serving in a 1st Air Cavalry reconnaissance team, I sustained a gunshot wound. I spent the next six months in a hospital.
Curiosity, fueled by many interests, enriched my studies at Columbia University. I enjoyed neurology and religion courses there within the last five years.
I was a self-employed analyst/trader of bonds and currencies for fifteen years.
I am fortunate in my life. I am a self-starter. I appreciate the opportunity to serve this great community. I believe in “Growth with Care.”
