1. What is the most important issue in Council District 43 you would address if elected?
The most significant issue in the 43rd Council District is the rampant, uncontrolled over development of our neighborhoods. New box-like developments of lot-to-lot-line density are damaging the integrity, charm and character of our communities. They have choked our streetscape and stressed our infrastructure, diminishing our quality of life. The new Bay Ridge Zoning Laws that I helped draft and pass is a first step in preserving the aesthetic beauty of many blocks in our area, but we must continue the fight to protect the rest of the 43rd District.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Education is an important issue in our district, as well as citywide. We must ensure that we maintain a quality level of education in all of our local public schools. This entails making certain the schools have the resources they need to provide our children a quality education they deserve. We must also maintain viable means of transportation from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and I will continue to advocate for subsidized state funding for express buses and City funding for ferry service.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
As a member of the Democratic Majority in the NYC Council, I am the only candidate in the district who can bring financial resources into the community. Many vital projects and programs in place in our district are a direct result of the funding I have been able to provide. My ability to deliver even more resources will only increase next year as Chairman of a committee in the City Council. As a former prosecutor, State Senator and now a NYC Council Member, I have the experience and I will continue to fight to maintain the high quality of life we have been able to enjoy in our part of Brooklyn.
