1. What is the most important issue in Council District 49 you would address if elected?
The ravages of overdevelopment have affected every part of Staten Island’s quality of life. School overcrowding, traffic, lack of health and public safety services and access to them can all be traced to the population explosion and unplanned growth we have undergone here on Staten Island in the last two decades.
That is why I have worked diligently, not only to build class room space, press for and realize additional police, fire and greater health services, but to downzone communities preserving their character, acquire open space for public use, have been recognized for my historic preservation efforts and serve on the Growth Management Taskfoce ensuring a stronger Hillside Preservation and Special Natural Areas Law as well as keeping a constant vigilance over Buildings Department rulings that adversely affect our Island.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
As the Council’s Sanitation and Solid Waste Management Chairman, I have championed recycling and will continue to press for environmentally sound policy. For the people of Staten Island, I have increased ferry and express bus service, placed computers in every North Shore school and will continue advocating for Staten Island’s fair share of transportation, public safety and education dollars.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish. My experience and dedication to the job of serving Staten Island has rewarded me me more than I could ever imagine. I look forward to the challenges of making Staten Island and even better place to live and raise a family should my neighbors see fit to returning me as their voice in City Hall
