1. What is the most important issue in Council District 51 you would address if elected?
Overdevelopment represents one of the greatest threats to the quality of life on Staten Island. Reckless and out of character development over the last 25 years has overburdened Staten Island’s public transportation, emergency services, and inadequate infrastructure causing traffic nightmares and overcrowded schools. I am proud to have authored and advanced the most sweeping zoning law changes to protect Staten Island in decades. I will continue to pass these laws which protect communities from Tottenville to New Dorp and limit the ability of builders to tear down homes in established neighborhoods. Only by continuing this work will we preserve Staten Island as the great place it is to live for my family and yours.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
I will work to improve Staten Island’s traffic and transportation by continuing the fight to: force the MTA to live up to its responsibility to open the third bus depot and provide more bus service, bring fast ferry service to the South Shore, and advance roadway improvement projects which include new turning lanes and intersection improvements along main roads like Hylan Blvd., Richmond Ave., and Arthur Kill Rd. I will stand against new taxes and fight to permanently roll back tax hikes like the massive property tax increases enacted after September 11, which represent a stifling and unfair burden upon our families and businesses – especially upon our Seniors. I’ll bring capital projects for the improvement of our schools and parks including the first city recreational ball fields built on the South Shore of Staten Island.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I want Staten Island to be the best it can be for my wife, a public school teacher, our three small children, and your family. My experience as an assistant district attorney, and business owner helped me successfully advance the best interests of Staten Island in my first three years in the City Council. I am proud of the success we have accomplished in the fight against overdevelopment, addition of new parks, addition of new classrooms and schools improvements, and the opening of the Rossville Firehouse as well as the soon to be built new Fourth Police Pct. The experience gained as your Council Member will allow me to build upon these accomplishments and as always keep the people of Staten Island first.
