I believe that the people of the Northeast Bronx deserve a Council Member who will deliver for us, serve honestly, and be a role model for our children.
As a working mother, I am concerned about the lack of affordable day care. If elected, I will seek more childcare funding for the Northeast Bronx. I am determined to help provide the best education for our children. Severe overcrowding and safety in schools must be addressed. I lead the fight that stopped the closing of PS 153 and am supporting the new K-8 school to be built near the Boston Secore Houses. I am supporting a Local Law to create a Charter Commission that may reduce class size in Public Schools.
I am working to revitalize White Plains Road and other commercial strips. The increase in malls and superstores in the Northeast Bronx, high taxes, and inadequate planning are killing our shopping strips and making traffic more dangerous.
I have helped lead the fight to save the Express Bus Service in the Northeast Bronx. I have fought against "hot sheet" motels and pressed for graffiti cleanup and beautification projects. I will continue these efforts in the Council. I have worked to make our neighborhoods safer. I got more police out of cars and onto street patrols. I fought for increased security at Co-op City’s garages. I will continue my work for better police training and improved police/community relations.
I have served as a member of the Board of Directors of Riverbay Corporation, President of the PS 153 Parents Association, The Birch Wathen Lenox School, and Director of St. Joseph’s After School Programs. I have won awards from the N.A.A.C.P., Bronx House, Riverbay Corporation and Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.
With Gods help and yours, I will bring my effective community activism to the City Council.
