1. What is the most important issue in Council District 8 you would address if elected?

Our community residents should not have to pay more than 30% of their income to live in this district. We need to create and preserve truly affordable housing to eliminate displacement of lower, middle AND moderate income families. Many people who work in District 8 or were raised in District 8 cannot afford to live here. We need a mix of incomes to keep this neighborhood stable. To date significant improvements have not been made to end displacement and create the balance of incomes that will sustain this community.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

We need to make sure that those who profit from this community hire locally and create local jobs. We will need to attract businesses to this community. The businesses need incentives to locate in District 8. Accordingly, funding for workforce development is critical at this time if this community is to continue to progress. Also important are the health problems of this community, including asthma, diabetes and obesity.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I am the only candidate who can say that I not only was born, raised, educated and still live in this community, but I have dedicated my life to improving the quality of life for residents and workers of this district. I am running to give voice to the over 140,000 people who live here and countless others who work to sustain this district. I have provided significant leadership and experience as the Chair of the community board, a voluntary role I have held since 2007, developing initiatives to increase affordable housing, increase local hiring, and improve health, wellness and the environment. The residents of the 8th council district deserve this demonstrated leadership.
