1. What is the most important issue in Council District 9 you would address if elected?
There aren't enough jobs and under the current system quality of life has decreased dramatically. If we can provide education reforms and job training programs we will decrease crime, improve standard of living, and create a safer community. Small businesses have been stagnant under the current leadership, due to lack of vision. We must improve the quality of life of residents (clean and safe streets), protect local businesses against box stores (or big chains) and preserve/increase affordable housing for hardworking residents.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Improving our educational system with a focus on primary education, financial literacy, humanities, green vocational training in high schools, after school programs, and continued education for adults. This is the only way to guarantee our children and community's future. Green vocational training will provide jobs for our community. Strong after school programs will keep children engaged.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
As a progressive leader, I will provide vision and new ideas that will sustain our community today and prepare our community for tomorrow. I will increase transparency and accountability in government and put people over politics. The community lacks a leader that can engage the youth to be more active in the community as well as, reinvigorate the foundation that created and sustained Harlem to this point. I will encourage our youth to take ownership in their community and by working together we can make a difference.
