1. What is the most important issue in Council District 06 you would address if elected?
Public Education consumes 1/3 of the City budget and is key to our district's viability and future. From Day 1 I will continue my advocacy for real parent/community involvement and local control, investing in community middle and high schools to end overcrowding and the absurd enrollment anxiety, putting an immediate end to high stakes testing, fixing our broken $3 bln special ed system, and supporting, not blaming teachers.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Over development on the West Side must stop and the community will respected. I will continue to fight for affordable housing and solid social service funding so that our seniors and working people can enjoy the diverse community they have built. And we must preserve our environment to sustain that community.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
As the ONLY candidate in the Democratic primary who is sending his children in our public schools and a recognized education leader, I will bring immediate influence and change to our district and City schools, children, and families. I have created real results in our social service sector as the founder of New York Cares, and as former CEO of Sprint Recycling understand our environmental issues. And I am truly independent of political party structures, and am unafraid to challenge these and monied interests.
