Prior Public Experience:(Not supplied.)
Mary Lou O’Callaghan, a life long Islander, has been actively
involved in political and civic affairs for many years, which have well prepared her to
represent Staten Island in the 50th Council District.
O’Callaghan currently works for HEAP and knows first hand the
difficulties facing our elderly community. Better and affordable housing must be made
available to our senior citizens. Funding for projects like this would have the efforts of
the candidate.
Everyone needs a decent place to live, but we need to rethink and
resolve the over building on Staten Island. SI is one of the fastest growing boroughs, but
without proper management of infrastructure and schools, the exponential building factor
must be controlled.
O’Callaghan will fight for the additional schools needed on the Island.
Over crowding of schools is not only a safety hazard, but has been proven to inhibit the
learning abilities of our children.
As a working mother of three, childcare is an important issue.
Affordable and convenient childcare must be made available to all people, regardless of
income.
Bias crimes and abuses must be stopped. No person, regardless of race,
religion, gender, creed, or sexual orientation, should have to submit to verbal or
physical abuse. O’Callaghan will work on programs to help victims cope; as well as insure
that criminals are charged with addition charges for a hate crime.
Please vote for Mary Lou O’Callaghan on the Liberal Party line on
November 2nd.
