John Sollazzo is a veteran, retired firefighter, small
businessman and dedicated community leader. As our Council Member, John will put his
values of hard work, family, and giving back to the community to work for us in the
Council.
As a firefighter, John learned the values of preparation, determination,
old-fashioned hard work and the necessity of teamwork.As an assistant to Council Member
Jay O’Donovan, and Assembly Members Elizabeth Connelly and Eric Vitaliano, he learned the
legislative process and how to cut through red tape to solve problems. John Sollazzo has
given his time, energy and skills to improve our quality of life for decades. He has
worked with our precincts against crime and with parents to improve our schools.He worked
to expand the Meals-on-Wheels program as an Executive Board Member, to keep youth off the
streets and out of crime as a volunteer instructor in Youth against Crime of Staten
Island, and to end the sales tax on clothing under $500.00 as a Board Member of Voice of
Staten Island Small Business.He fought to close the dump and expand recycling as a member
of Groups Against Garbage, and to force the city to make improvements as a Coordinator of
the watchdog Fresh Kills Landfill Advisory Board.John Sollazzo will be a full-time Council
Member.
