As an elected School Leadership Team member
and UFT Chapter Chairperson, I worked with supervisors,
colleagues, and the bureaucracy to benefit our
children. I bring this degree of inside experience
to the responsibility for appointing Brooklyn’s
Board of Education member.
I will appoint qualified people to local Planning
Boards, who can infuse fresh ideas into the local
governmental spectrum, on a strictly non-partisan
basis.
Dealing with the educational bureaucracy and planning
projects on the School Leadership Team provided
me with the experience necessary to exercise the
Borough President’s discretionary budget powers.
Reducing unnecessary staff positions within the
Borough President’s office can engender tremendous
savings of taxpayer money.
I ran last year for State Assembly in an overwhelmingly
Democratic district as the candidate of the Republican,
Independence, Conservative, Green, and Working
Families Parties. Gov. George Pataki endorsed
me then: “As an educator who has spent nearly
20 years teaching New York City schoolchildren
and a dedicated community leader, Lori Sue Maslow
has what it takes to be great representative of
the people...I know that I could count on Lori
Sue Maslow to help me fight for the policies that
will continue to move New York forward.”
I support the efforts this year of the Brooklyn
Republican Unity Coalition to construct a more
effective Republican Party in our borough as a
means of providing an alternative to the one-party
domination of local elections.
I was raised as a child in the Glenwood Projects,
struggled to pay my educational expenses, became
a school teacher, first rented, then purchased
a home, and, together with my husband, am raising
three young children as a working mother. This
life experience, combined with my professional
career, has amply qualified me to serve as Borough
President.
Please give me your vote and let’s send in a teacher
to the Borough President’s office!
