My visions and goals for Queens include:
- Promote economic development, especially in
immigrant neighborhoods.
- Promote affordable housing for middle-income,
working families.
- Continue to pursue landlords and property owners
who knowingly build illegal conversions
- Fight for Queens’ “fair share” from the Port
Authority. They must provide us with support in
our communities such as soundproofing for schools,
senior homes and religious houses of worship.
- Investigate every corner of the borough for new
sites for public schools.
- Provide stricter oversight over franchise bus
companies so that where service is lacking or
inadequate, proper measures can be taken. This
includes subways.
- Continue to explore and provide pressure on the
City, State and Federal government to provide
funding and subsidies for a ferry service between
Rockaway and Manhattan.
- Fight against increased flights at both
airports.
- Fight for more funding and more emphasis on
recruiting school crossing guards and school
security officers.
- Work with the NYPD to implement programs that
provide better relationships between the
department and the borough’s immigrant populations
and youth population.
- Fight for teacher pay raises equal to Nassau and
Suffolk County so we do not continue to lose
teachers from the City.
- Increase teacher spending so they can adequately
supply their classrooms without using money from
their own pockets.
- Fight to open closed parks and playgrounds and
work to develop unused land for potential parks
and playgrounds.
- Ensure that the boroughs’ parks are easily
accessible to physically challenged residents.
